The full moon — the final “super moon” of 2020 — rises Wednesday evening over Housetop Mountain in the Jedediah Smith Wilderness. Supermoons occur when the moon is within 90 percent of perigee, which is its closest approach to Earth in orbit, resulting in the moon appearing brighter and bigger in the night sky. The next super moon will not occur until late April 2021.
