National Elk Refuge wildlife biologist Amy Girard turns opens the gas valves on the agency's new incinerator before placing some winter-killed elk inside to be destroyed. Carcasses are incinerated at 1,600 degrees for about four hours, well above the threshhold to destroy CWD prions.
